JANINE:  Doctor we know that here in Los Angeles…Beverly Hills….everybody wants a beautiful white smile.  What are some options people have for getting beautiful white teeth?

DR:  Well tooth whitening is a huge industry in America today.  You have a few different options  You can have the home kit where we prepare custom fit trays for you and you use a bleaching gel at home on a daily basis or you can come to the dental office and get laser tooth whitening done.

JANINE:  How fast and effective is that laser process?

DR:  It’s very effective.  The light makes the materials work much quicker and under a controlled environment.  Here in the office we’re able to use a higher concentration of bleaching solution so in just a short hour you can have beautiful white teeth.

JANINE:  It may be a little bit more expensive, but it is a better process than trying to do it with over the counter products.

DR:  Absolutely, what we do in our office is give you the home kit once you get the whitening done.  So you can maintain that beautiful white smile you obtained in the office.

JANINE:  Follow up with it at home and make sure you have beautiful white teeth forever.  Now whitening is something that is a great process, but also people like to have the veneers or something else for more of a permanent touch in cosmetic Dentistry. 

DR:  Veneers have been one of the greatest advances in cosmetic dentistry.  It will give us a beautiful smile but it’s still our natural teeth. If we want to redo our smile or reshape the way our teeth are, porcelain veneers do a magnificent job of that and you’ll have a beautiful smile forever.

JANINE:  I guess we have to be careful what things we eat and drink to keep those teeth white.

DR:  Absolutely, if you do regular whitening anything such as cigarettes, coffee, and tea can stain teeth quite heavily.   Now, if you get porcelain veneers, guess what?  Porcelain does not stain.  You’ll have a white smile that’s permanent. 

JANINE:  You’ve given us a lot of great information on teeth whitening.  I’m curious; you’ve been in this business for many years, what is one of the strangest things you’ve seen as a dentist?

DR:  Well, I’ve seen quite a few things.  I had a patient come in one day, a construction worker, and he had a beard.  He fell asleep in the chair and as I was working on him, ants started crawling out of his beard and into his mouth.  I tried to blow them off with my air and water gun but they flew right into his mouth and started crawling on his tongue.  We suctioned them off and continued working. 

JANINE:  Wow that means you’re a great dentist!

DR: I’m an exterminator!

JANINE:  Dentist and exterminator!
