Janine: So Dr. George, sometimes we go out and have these wonderful meals. Then we come home and feel so uncomfortable. What is that all about? Is that what they call heart burn?
Dr. George: It is and it can present itself in several different ways. Some people have a pain, some have burning, and others have hoarseness. These are all part and parcels of the heartburn symptoms.
Janine: Is this truly related to what we eat, and how much we eat? How can we avoid this?
Dr. George: It’s acid reflux disease. It’s actually a disease and what happens physiologically, is that acid from the stomach goes up into the esophagus, causes damage and sometimes even to the vocal chords, produces hoarseness.
Janine: Now you know I’m a radio personality so I use my voice every day. What can I do to avoid having that happen?
Dr. George: The most important thing you can do is to not eat late at night.
Janine: hhhmmmm
Dr. George: Four hours before you go to bed you shouldn’t eat or drink anything except water.
Janine: Wow! That’s gonna be tough.
Dr. George: Forget about the cookies and the milk before going to bed.
Janine: You found out! Well that’s a lot of great information. Thank you Dr. George.
Janine: And if you need more information, check those Show-notes, and we’ll see you back next time.
