October is Cancer Awareness month but weeks ago, at The
Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, the tone was set when Evening news anchors Katie
Couric, Brian Williams and Charles Gibson joined forces, and hosted "Stand
Up To Cancer." Charles Gibson's wife is a [more ]cancer survivor and Katie Couric
lost her husband to cancer 10 years ago.
Spider Man producer,
Sherry Lansing, Rob Lowe, and Melissa Etheridge, who is also a cancer
survivor, organized the event with the
help of many others involved in the cause. Christina Applegate and Patrick Swayze have
become some of the most recent advocates for cancer research and supported
STAND UP TO CANCER, to help raise money and the country's level of awareness.
It was back in 1971
that President Richard Nixon first declared the War on Cancer. It's hard to imagine that 1500 people lose
their lives to cancer every day.
So many have been touched by cancer and no one is
exempt. Senator Obama lost his mother to
cancer, and McCain is a cancer survivor himself, not to mention the many
celebrities who entertain us every day through movies, music, and television. And let's not forget the thousands of
everyday people who may already have cancer, but lack the support, or resources
to be tested.
According to Dr. Alister George of The Digestive Health
Center in Thousand Oaks, California,
Colon cancer is one of the most preventable cancers.
Our generation of Americans has proven that we can band
together in crisis...consider the uncommon acts of kindness and personal
sacrifice in response to 9/11 and the Katrina disaster. Every year, cancer takes more lives than
these two, combined. The UBU Network encourages all to get involved. Cancer isn't the only threat we face...there
are committed Americans on every battlefield from homelessness and hunger to
child abuse, animal cruelty and pollution.
Watch for our upcoming show, "Celebrity Causes," this fall on the
UBU Network.
Tech Tip:
Wireless innovation has changed the way we use technology
from our telephones to home computer networks and even the way we change TV
channels. One way to take advantage of
wireless technology is to set up a wireless sound system… you can upgrade or install a new system in
minutes, without running wires across the floor or hiring an electrician to run
cable inside the walls. In the Show-notes,
I'll explain how a wireless sound system works and show you a few products that
will get you going.
